The May round up - six things...

Way back when, many many years ago when Kitchen Provisions was a wee young pup of a thing, we used to generate blog content by doing a monthly round up. Shout outs for new restaurants we had been to (spoiler: a glut of children means leaving the house after dark is a much rarer occurrence); things we had cooked with (shouting about gochujang like we had just discovered it. 'cos we had); and some mentions of new products. It was fun to do and quick and interesting. Not sure why we stopped but we are going to restart. New year, same old content formats resurrected.

1) CRUSHING ON: the prints from Kate Guy. We only have them in store and they are just fabulous - traditional, modern, all the favourites. Perfect to hang up on your fantasy AGA (we all have a fantasy AGA don't we? churning out endless AGA-toast (IYKYK) and ready to warm through a newborn lamb on the brink of death in our fantasy farmhouse.... do you not play fantasy farmhouse? no? lost you there?).

2) COOKING: we stocked copies of "Buns" in Stokey and I overcame my baking phobia to make them. And what a revelation! As the recipe suggests, you can just bung it all in the mixer and the icing step really is a doddle. 2025 is gonna be the year I become known for my buns.

3) WATCHING: the current favourite evening activity in Casa KP is to watch Fallow on youtube on loop while slumped on the sofa punching crisps into our mouths. The amount I have learned about potatoes alone is insane as it is all about the technical tips and tricks that will make what you cook more approaching restaurant quality. If I was a bright young thing with aspirations towards anything food related, I would be lapping these up. Also interesting from a content perspective whether lifting the curtain on how you do what do spoils the experience; do you want to see how much butter goes in or the trick on how to get it crispy? Yes, yes you do. Seeing how the sausage is made just made me want to eat more sausage... but potato dauphinoise. Get it?

4) LUNCHING: the current lunchtime go to in Soho is Panadera Bakery, a Filipino outfit. I know first reaction might be "Sando? [yawn]". But you haven't tried Panadera (don't confuse it with Pandera Bread. Not the same thing AT ALL). Without getting too evangelical, I feel that my love for the Sando is reborn the egg is as light as a feather and the doughnuts are to die for. Ube in particular of course.

5) BUYING: this isn't something we sell, but am going to share anyway. CASA PUPO. It is a Portuguese-produced, Chelsea sold range of homewares dating from, I think, the 80s that turns up on eBay and is just perfection. Great shapes, great colours. A bit retro but not too much. And usually sold for a steal. I have snapped up most of the current stock on eBay and will fight you for the rest.
