STEP AWAY FROM THE STRAWBERRIES: what to eat when you visit BOROUGH MARKET and why...

Our shop at Borough Yards is now 2 years old and in those two years of knife selling, sharpening and mooching around the market, we think we have come up with the definitive list of what-to-eat at Borough market. Some rather specific recommendations of what and where, so that even if you aren’t a London-native, you don’t get in the chocolate-strawberry-queue-purgatory and can experience some great things to eat and drink. Here goes....

1) PORK SCRATCHINGS at the RAKE obviously washed down with a pint of something very cold. It is a little tucked away behind the market but well worth hunting down for a pit stop.

2) PASTEIS DE NATA at SANTA NATA: dangerously close to our shop, they never miss with the filling having the perfect amount of wibble.

3) SPICY SAUSAGE ROLL at the GINGER PIG: this is hardly a new recommendation as this butchers is pretty much synonymous with borough. But also good to know that some things remain excellent and well worth keeping space in the stomach for.

4) CHARSUI PORK and CHICKEN RICE at MEI MEI: Sit at the counter, make time for some kopi peng and soak up the atmosphere. The cooking and ingredients and love that go into this dish should be savoured.

5) BEEF DRIPPING CHIPS at NORTHFIELD FARM: all chips need to be fried in beef dripping. Simples.

6) KUBBA at JUMA KITCHEN: their small but mighty signature mouthfuls, cooked quickly by a friendly team. What more can you want from London streetfood?

7) RAGU PIZZA at ELLIOTS: anything at Elliots in fact. Best in class for big flavours and originality and seasonal and the small plate buzzwords.

8) FRIED CHICKEN at BAO: every interation of fried items at Bao is well worth having. And the drinks... perfect for lunch but only takes someone who shares food and you will eat the menu and gush over the interiors.

9) ALL THE SNACKS at RAMBUTAN: the menu changes frequently but the snacks are always there and packed full of punchy flavours. Sit at the bar for the best experience.
