Japanese ken nata - a mix between an a axe and a machete. Not as tough as an axe, but much more durable than the machete. A universal tool for outdoor use and functions equally well as a small machete or as a larger camping or hunting knife. Available single or double bevelled, comes with saya included.
STEEL: SK5, mid range carbon steel. It is a tough steel that can be hardened to 62 - 63 HRC, with a great impact resistance. With high carbon levels in the mix (0.90%) it offers great edge retention and sharpness. This steel is a great choice for hunting knives, and will take on tough jobs in the kitchen with ease. Although added Chromium (0.30%) enhances wear and corrosion resistance, it is worth noting that this is not a stainless steel, and care must be taken to avoid rust and corrosion.
HANDLE: White Oak
FINISH: Kurouchi. This is a traditional, rustic finish achieved by leaving the furnace scale from the forging process on the blade rather than polishing it off. It has the advantage of reducing the reactivity of the surface of the knife and gives the blade a stylish, matt black finish.
