Petty knife, kurouchi finish - Yauchi
This product is currently sold out.
A beautiful little petty made from shirogami steel with a kurouchi finish.
SHAPE: Petty. The smallest knife in the collection and perfect for everyday slicing tasks.
STEEL: Shirogami (white) 2 steel. It is a reactive carbon steel which is easy to sharpen and holds an edge well. This steel is frequently chosen for traditional-style Japanese knives.
FINISH: Kurouchi. This is a traditional, rustic finish achieved by leaving the furnace scale from the forging process on the blade rather than polishing it off. It has the advantage of reducing the reactivity of the surface of the knife and gives the blade a stylish, matt black finish.
HANDLE: D shaped chestnut wood handle with a right hand bias although a left hander would be fine with this handle.
MAKER: Yauchi, Sakai City, Japan
BEST FOR: Perfect for those who like a smaller knife.
SAUNDERS SAYS: "I bought one of these for Symonds [*cough* me] while in Japan, nuff said."
BLADE LENGTH: 140mm
OVERALL LENGTH: 272mm
BLADE HEIGHT: 32mm
THICKNESS AT HEEL: 3.1mm
These knives are hand-forged so there may be slight variations in measurements and finishes.
